Where to Buy
Carrots are orange for entirely political reasons:   in the 17th century, Dutch growers cultivated orange carrots as a tribute to King William of Orange-who lead the struggle for Dutch independence-and the color stuck.  A thousand years of yellow, white, and purple carrot history, was wiped out in a generation.

Rainbow carrots
developed from these early breeds as a Heirloom Variety that grow up naturally in colors ranging from white to deep orange.

Onions
were cultivated as early as 5000 years ago and though to originate in Asia. They grew wild and in the Middle Ages they were prescribed by doctors to treat headaches, snakebites and even hair loss.

Today, onions are important in our diets and the National Cancer institution has reported that onions contain antioxidants that help block cancer and appears to lower cholesterol

Poultry raised specifically for meat are called broilers.  The first broilers were mostly made of male birds culled from farms.

In they 1930's Cornish pullets were crossed with Plymouth rock cockerels to produce early meat breeds and later refined to today's breeds.
